There was discussion about finding if you need to add twist to the single or to the ply in yarn that will be knitted. If you are knitting with a yarn, how do you recognize if the twist problem is in the single or if it is in the ply?

I'm not understanding how that is answering my question-- I guess I wasn't understanding the discussion--not understanding what the problem is that demonstrates that more twist needs to be added to the single, or that more twist needs to be added to the ply. Do you know what that problem is? And then, when that problem occurs, how would you know if it is the single that is the problem or the ply that is the problem.

I think that, in your reply above, you are saying that when you are knitting, if you see the ply untwisting, you would know that you need to add more ply twist, and that makes sense to me--what about not enough twist in the single?

If you are knitting your yarn and the singles are pulling apart and breaking as you tension as you knit, that means you do not have enough twist in your single. If you are knitting and the plies are untwisting, usually causing you to split the plies as you create stitches, then you don’t have enough ply twist. I hope this helps!

Thanks--I guess I hadn't understood because I have never knitted with my handspun singles--I always ply for knitting. And, I assumed they were talking about knitting with a plied yarn and encountering a problem and somehow were able to identify if the problem was with the twist in the ply or single.--and that did puzzle me.
