S2E8.6 Why Ply? Diameter and Color
S2E8: Plying
•
15m
Diameter and color are reasons we ply, how does it work and how does the number of plies affect it. Jacey takes bulky singles and creates 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-ply yarns then compares the color and diameter. Using the yarns for visual comparison along with WPI and YPP Jacey explores how each added ply affects the yarn. Each time we add a ply our yarn gets bulkier but not by as much as the previous ply we added (this is called the law of diminishing returns).

Plying increases the strength of our yarns but by how much? Is more plies always stronger? and if so, by how much? When does adding plies stop being worth it?

S2E8.8 Why Ply? Evenness and Protection
Plying our yarns increases consistency and makes it harder wearing, but how many plies do we need? The law of diminishing returns holds true for consistency jacey spins and explains several samples to demonstrate. However, when it comes to yarn protection and it's ability to withstand wear and te...
