S2E5.2 Dressing and (Wet) Spinning from a Cone
S2E5: Spinning Flax and Hemp
•
24m
Patsy teaches us how to dress a cone distaff and wet-spin flax. She starts with how to tell the difference between the root and blossom end of flax and encourages you to try spinning from both and see what works best for you. Then she moves into how to easily tie up and dress a distaff, the use of ribbons, and creating and dressing a cone out of a paper bag. With your cone on your distaff, she dives into wet-spinning. Patsy shows when and how to wet your fingers, how to adjust if your distaff isn't letting your draft easily, and what to do if you get too many fibers drafting. She talks about how it's okay if your flax isn't perfectly even and how archeologists tell the difference between cotton and linen (spoiler, it'll make you feel better about any uneven linen you spin).
